Matthew Allen

IP Consultant, BEng (Mechanical), MSc in Management of IP, CIPA Associate Member, European Design Attorney, & European Trademark Attorney

Matthew obtained a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering at Queen Mary College of the University of London, and an MSc in Management of Intellectual Property Law including components covering Patents, Designs, Trademarks, Copyright, and Licensing.

He is a registered European Design Attorney, an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, and has passed the majority of exams required to become a registered UK patent attorney and a registered European patent attorney.

Matthew previously worked at one of the top 10 UK firms of patent attorneys. During this time, he gained experience across a wide range of IP issues.

Highlights include:
  • Preparing a successful defence case in Patent revocation proceedings at the UK IP Office, and interviewing the expert witness involved in the case.
  • Representing a FTSE 250 client company involved in acquisitions of companies to deal with the transfer of intellectual property and registration of those rights into the name of the new owner.
  • Negotiating two settlements for separate clients against two patent infringements, where infringing items were delivered to the client and damages were paid, all without resorting to costly court action.
  • Leading a successful ex parte Oral proceedings at the European Patent Office.
  • Achieving some success in every Patent Opposition he has been involved in at the EPO both acting for Opponent and Patent Proprietor.
  • Reaching successful co-existence outcomes in dispute resolution against E Gluck Corporation and Saturn Corporation (part of the General Motors Corporation).
Matthew is also a registered European Trademark Attorney.
 

Mariela Pennisi

Mariela has a degree in Economics and a postgraduate diploma in Business & Finance.
