Matthew Allen BEng (Mech. Eng.), MSc IP Management, EPA

Matthew obtained a Batchelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London, and a Masters degree in Management of Intellectual Property Law. Matthew is a registered European Patent Attorney, a European Design and Trademark Attorney, and an Associate Member of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).

Matthew previously worked at one of the top 10 UK firms of patent and trademark attorneys, gaining experience across a wide range of technology and IP issues, before starting his own practice in 2008. 
 
Matthew deals with a wide range of mechanical engineering technology, and technology in neighbouring industries, including high performance brakes and clutches in the automotive industry, aircraft fuselage, wing and landing gear arrangements in the aeronautical industry, mechanical inserts, advanced materials, and consumer and household products. Matthew is interested in clean-tech, sustainable air and water supply, energy production, and waste treatment. Matthew also follows developments in medical products, and judges the Omnicompete Medical Technology Challenge.

Matthew has experience of numerous infrequent IP procedures, including patent revocation proceedings before the UK IP Office, interviewing an expert witness, transfers of intellectual property following acquisitions and recordal of new owners of rights, dealing with patent infringements and negotiating settlements for clients, ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the European Patent Office, and opposition proceedings before the USPTO TTAB, and OHIM. 

Dr Daniel Bates, B.Sc (Hons), MSc, EngD, RPA, CPA, EPA

Dan qualified as a Patent Attorney at a large Patent and Trade Mark Attorney private practice in the Midlands. Prior to working in private practice he was employed by Marconi Communications Ltd (now Ericsson) as part of the in-house Intellectual Property counsel team. In this role he gained experience of managing large portfolios of patents and extensive experience of patents in telecommunications technologies including optics, software, electronic devices, network architecture, computer implemented inventions, and processor technologies.

Before entering the patent profession Dan was employed by Airbus UK Ltd and Rover Group Ltd in research and professional engineering positions. During his time at Airbus Dan worked for the structural testing and non-destructive testing departments, and developed new non-destructive testing techniques for aircraft wing inspection specialising in eddy current, ultrasonic, thermal and X-ray inspection techniques. During his time at Rover he worked as a researcher into lightweight vehicle technology.

Dan has a Doctorate of Engineering, a Masters degree in Engineering Business Management, and an Honours degree in Physics. He is also the inventor for three patent families on new non-destructive testing procedures which resulted from his Doctorate studies. Dan also has comprehensive experience of lasers, semiconductors, macro-molecular physics, particle physics, acoustics, atmospheric dynamics, mechanical engineering devices, and advanced composite materials.

Dan has now set up his own Intellectual Property practice and is also a consultant for Allen IP Limited.


Mariela Pennisi

Mariela has a degree in Economics from the National University of Mar del Plata, Argentina, and a postgraduate diploma in Business & Finance from the Open University of Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona.
 
Mariela's mother tongue is Spanish, and she is fluent in English. Mariela is conversant in numerous office applications, IT issues, diary maintainance, and provides accounts support.
